Gotta love that unbiased journalism “We start off here with this very nice user interface”, LOL well you know what Let me get this out of the way right now i’m about to say something and it WILL NOT BE UNBIASED EITHER.
- This may be the plainest ugliest UI i have seen to date, ya sure it sweeps to the side nicely but even the xbox1 had a nicer UI than this, a flat blue background with white icons that shift? Give me a break.
- Wasn’t the fact the DS killed the PSP (yes i said killed just look at the numbers) enough to get Sony to stop adopting features from it into the PS3? I mean first the whole “our format” concept first it was UMD now its Bluray, get the point Sony people don’t want to be forced into things. Then the price, just like the PSP, the PS3 is over the price of the competitors, and now they basically ripped the PSP user interface and just transplanted it into the PS3. What a bad omen.
- The ingame menu, let’s ignore the fact they blatantly stole the 360 button and made an ugly flat playstation logo tactile… The ingame menu appears to have a major flaw, unless the game is pretty dark it could easily be made unusable (or require ingame movement to fix) … look at the menu as he shows it, had the camera been about a half inch more orbited to the left the white smoke would have easily made the menu unusable and required the player to go back to the game and rotate the camera, god forbid a very bright or whitish game.
- If you’re going to do a menu system with a line of icons, the least you can do is add some genie effects and size shift, I mean thats what made the Apple dock cool.
- Is it just me or after 2 nested menus does this thing start looking like it’s just a bunch of text all over the screen?
Sure they could easily fix the blandness with backgrounds but the fact is it’s still not gonna be pretty, and backgrounds could easily make the text based menus very unreadable.
Am i the only blog writer out their that sees this system menu as a problem? I would have SOOOO much have rather seen something nice and flashy i mean its a PS3, a 600$ device, why copy a 200$ PSP’s user interface? At 3x the price I would have expected something a little more impressive for it’s base interface?
Also as a side note, did anyone miss the “boot to linux” button? I mean last i recall the PS3 was supposed to have a full blown linux distro built in… Or was that dropped with the whole 7 controller/2 hdmi 1080p output fiasco?
