Apparently the new Pre-RC1 version of vista has gotten a good bit of working over, and has seen the addition of some interesting links. It looks like rather than bundling the actual software with Vista that might spark off the DoJ or some other government group, Microsofts going to be doing the Next best thing, in the welcome screen there are links to some of the most popular Windows Live applications, Messenger, OneCare etc. And in the Start Menu rather than windows messenger being bundled a link to direct download Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft’s replacement for MSN Messenger.
Personally I’d much rather save the bandwidth and have things like this included, but then Microsoft would have to deal with all the legal red tape and its just plain safer for them while still maintaining a ease of deployment for the users. As we get more details on the Pre-RC1 release (sometime this or next week apparently) we’ll deliver it as it becomes available.
