Microsoft: Xbox360 to add 1080p Support and Upscaling!

Today at TGS Microsoft just deflated the PS3 fanboys remarks that atleast their platform supported 1080p … the funny part is only 2 games a Tech Demo of GT-HD and Virtua Tennis while the other games all chose to remain 720p. Microsoft this fall will release a new dashboard upgrade that will not only tidy things up a bit and add a few new features probably but it will also add Support for Upscaling previous games to 1080p output resolution as well as give developers native support for 1080p if they choose to use it.

Now no this doesn’t mean well be getting a bunch of new games sporting 1080p its the same case as the ps3, most games just cant be run at 1080p resolution with good framerates, so they will still be 720p but i’m sure we’ll see atleast 1 or 2 games in 1080p eventually down the road, but for now this definitly has evened the playing fields on the output resolutions. On top of the games getting native and upscaling support for 1080p, HDDVD titles that are in 1080p will also be able to be output in their native resolution of 1080p.

1080p Will be available over the VGA and Component outputs, currently there still hasn’t been an anouncement of a DVI or HDMI adapter… YET, as Microsoft said previously eventually perhaps but not yet.

This really just shows how great Microsoft is at software, and how extensible the 360 is, With 2 updates a year for the 360 dashboard, god only knows what else they have in store for us :)
