In a bit of a followup from my previous post, in the news today a really dedicated modder by the name of “TheSpecialist” has come up with a way to make a specific model of Western Digital 120GB Sata (80$ online) work with the Xbox 360. The drawback? It’s not gonna let you have the pretty snap in harddrive cover and fit together nicely. So while its possible i’m still not recommending it I mean who wants to have the harddrive sit next to their 360, just get the fully mobile external snap on pack, ya ya it’s 100$ more but come on support the company thats making a wicked console, and brings you more and more exclusive and awesome games. They loose money on every console they sell, the least we can do is keep up their first party attach rates. (Though i doubt hdd hacks like this will really impact overall 120gb 360 hdd sales)…
The hack utilizes a specially written software dubbed HDDHackr 0.90, the tool isn’t automated yet and requires a bit of hex dumping. On top of that it currently only works with the Western Digital BEV series, and beyond that it only works with 1 line of the BEV series, the LAT not the RST. So in order for this 80$ harddrive to work, you’ll first have to find a Western Digital Scorpio BEVS-LAT drive (WD1200BEVS-60LAT0). If you can track one down online then your on your way, the full tutorial and links to downloads is available at the source, I suppose we all just need to pray that hackers like TheSpecialist never get ahold of Cialis and find other things besides hacking to consume their time with LOL. Though i’m still waiting for my XBMC for 360 without need to open the case :) LOL
