Intel: 3ghz not quite, but da*n close

Just when you thought it was safe to buy that super expensive Extreme Core 2 Extreme so you could be the baddest boy on the block. Intel goes and releases a new chip, but this time its the Core 2 Extreme QX6800. The sad part is it’s gonna be nearly double the price for about 300mhz, so in reality it’s only for the guys that really have to have the utter best CPU right now. The good news is, new chips normally means a price drop on the older chips is soon to come :)

The beautiful Quad Core Core 2 Extreme QX6800 comes in at just under 3ghz (god why didn’t they just push it a teany tiny bit more to hit 3ghz. It clocks in at 2.93ghz which for a Core 2 chip is BLAZING fast, and for a quad core, its well… unfathomable by most desktop users view :) But like i said for this kind of performance, and 8M of memory cache at 1ghz FSB, it’s gonna cost you… and it’s gonna cost you $1200 USD :)

On a side note, Intel launched two low-power versions of its Core 2 Duo processor, the U7600 and U7500 chips, aimed at products like Gateway Inc.’s E-100M ultraportable PC.
