Microsoft hints at Free Flash Zune w/ Subscription???

Everyone that’s a Zune lover was ecstatic when the 1.3 update was released, but don’t forget alot of people are still dieing for some features that Microsoft has said they are looking forward to like wifi syncing and device based store. (Not to mention not-so-related music on the 360 and video library from the 360 marketplace)

On top of this great update to fix the syncing issues. Zune marketing director Jason Reindorp is hinting at a something very interesting to look forward to by saying, “The subscription service was a solid move on our part. We’ve seen 65% growth in our subscription base, although the number is still small. It could be better and it could become different — we’re looking at what other flavors of subscriptions there could be. We’ve been looking at the subscription model where you pay a certain amount and you essentially get the cell phone for free.”

Does this mean one of the first Gen2 Zune’s will be a light weight cheap flash based player? For free or very cheap? Now here’s where it gets even more interesting, from the way I understand it Microsoft says they added the preliminary Wifi to the first generation Zune’s because they said they wanted from day 1 for all the Zune’s to be future compatible. Does that mean the “cheap or free” player would have wifi as well as play video and have a decent sized screen? Well at least that’s the way I see it and hope.

Little recap: First Generation2 Zune I believe will be a very cheap 1/4/8gig device, with 802.11g and support video with at least a 1.5″ screen.
