ExtremeTech got ahold of this little baby, it’s the LG GGW-H10N HD/DVD + Blu-Ray internal drive, something SOOOOO many people have been waiting to see come to light. Though i suppose the pricetag of likely over $1000, it’s not like many of them will actually get to test it out. On top of that extremetech wasn’t very impressed with the performance.
Bluray speeds were well below the 2x speed that was claimed and the HDDVD-R/RW read support was non-existent for some reason. So the question is will it be fixed before it ships or are we going to see down the road firmware updates somehow? Though the truth is it could have been a driver issue or hardware issue since the unit they tested was NOT a finalized unit and was only for prelimiary reviewing.
Here’s my little tidbit though look at that above image, isn’t the faceplate getting a bit crowded, at the rate we’re going theirs only room for 1-2 more formats in a combo drive, maybe thats the reason they say the world is going to digital downloads instead of disc based, their running out of adspace on the drives ;) It’s starting to look more and more like a nascar door than a drive. And now that i think of it actually that above picture is missing the lightscribe logo so hell their is no more room or maybe 1 more if they really stuff it :)
