The iPhone get’s a killer app (2 actually)

First of all let me just say that I’m getting an iPhone, primarily because i can get one relatively cheap right now refurbished, and the fact that it’s all hacked to hell and back so that we can do just about anything with it. I mean i love windows mobile but theirs nothing like a few ounces of hardware that allows root access, with builtin wireless and god knows what else the hackers will get it to do. Can you imagine if the iPhone ends up getting something like netstumbler, with packet injection for cracking wep and everything… it’ll end up being every geeks best friend! lol

Anyway’s a bit of old news first the first isn’t the killer app, but it is wicked and it was what was holding me back from getting my iPhone… ApolloIM has released 1.0 of their IM software that allows native messaging to MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and AIM and a few others. It’s still beta and their working out the bugs especially when running multiple networks at once it gets really slow, but I was only waiting for MSN anyway :)

truphoneNow here’s the big killer app of the day or it will be once TruPhone releases their software. Demonstrated today at DEMOfall 07 in  San Diego, the company exec via command line (via jailbreak’d iPhone) was able to place a phone call over VOIP and an IP connection to a standard phone without breaking the SIM lock! What are they gonna make this iPhone into next? I mean first the iBrate application turns it into a vibrator, now they get VOIP working, maybe a pulse oximeter next?

The system is in early betas and they plan to release a version very soon with a nice GUI and simplified activation and seamless switching between the VOIP and SIM usage for calls. This is a massive development because i know a lot of people that use VOIP religiously. Theirs no word on if the VOIP is tied to a specific provider or if we’ll be able to tell the application our own SIP servers, if the latter is the case then i know A LOT of people that will be buying iPhones soon LOL.

PS: I’m still waiting to get the iPhone for 2 reasons however, 1 is cash as I’m broke right now, and secondly, I’m waiting to see if apple screws everyone with the next firmware that has a unlocked iPhone.
