Well it would appear that Microsoft’s announcement of the fact that they are going to stand by Zune 30gb customers with updates to the latest firmware to match up it’s features with the new hardware is something that the consumers seem to love. The 30gb White Zune has jumped to the #1 position for Hard Drive based players, followed by the Black Zune in second place, both surpassing Apple’s iPod offerings. Even the brown Zune seen as more of a niche market product managed to break the top 5 in the category. Apparently instead of the Zune 30 having issues with catching market sales after the announcement, it’s doing the opposite of a vessel sinks into the abyss and it’s starting to thrive.
Now you have to take this for what it is these are only Numbers from Amazon’s Hard Drive list, but the fact that Microsoft is doing what most companies have never done, namely standing by their early adopters and bringing the entire second generation firmware to the first generation devices is astonishing. This sort of company loyalty to the consumers is a great sign and i suppose the sexy $179.99 pricetag doesn’t hurt that bad either. The real trick will be to see if in November the Zune4, Zune8, Zune30 and Zune80 can all tackle the Top 10 lists at amazon and nationwide.
