Ok yes, while they were destroyed and in spectacular ways, the fact of the matter is they were done in a controlled setting by the US government to make sure they are road legal :) But the title sure is catchy eh? HEHE
In a bid to move the bad A$$ electric sports car to the US Tesla Motors is putting it’s cars through the ringer known as the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) testing cycle. As of this week the Tesla Roadster is officially legal to be driven in all 50 states and has passed every FMVSS test that was thrown at it. From all types of crazy impact tests like the one you see above, to simpler ones like checking if the windshield could defrost fast enough. They even test for more boring things like to make sure the instrument panel’s icons are all the US standards based things for emergency brake, gas etc.
While it passed every test including the important ones like insuring that during an accident the giant battery bank’s emergency cutoff system would work regardless of what was thrown at the car (check the examples of such battering below) It’s good to know that if you get in an accident you won’t have to worry about being fried by thousands of volts from the cars battery along with you broken neck.
