NVidia and ATI were the only to big time graphics chipset’s. Now as you might recall AMD bought out ATI it’s quite surprising to hear that Analysts believe that NVIDIA would be a potential buyer for AMD at this point.
Now correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t that in turn make NVIDIA the only graphics chip provider or at least the only dedicated card maker considering as far as I last checked Intel only does integrated graphics chipset’s. The entire concept to me seems like someone took too much colon cleanser and is crapping out stupid ideas I mean it’s a bit unfair and a definite opening for a antitrust suit not to mention I doubt it would be approved by the FTC.
The odd analyst prediction came from Doug Friedman of the American Technology Research group who said that “Intel/AMD roadmap of integration of the CPU/GPU would pose a risk to NVIDIA” and that by buying AMD it would propel NVIDIA into a formidable competitor for Intel…
Beyond the fact that the FTC would never approve it theirs also the licensing issues that Intel and AMD have that would prevent AMD to transferring any of Intel’s technologies to a third party effectively making it impossible for the new company to produce their own x86 CPUs so if NVIDIA buys AMD, their goes the AMD CPU’s down the toilet.
So the join seems like yes, it would give NVIDIA a leg up, but is perhaps the most unrealistic possibility of happening ever given the logistics and the fact that Intel would definitly cry foul. And if this is what analysts to I’m not impressed. This is like saying “If Google buys Yahoo they’ll beat Microsoft” wow didn’t exactly need a crystal ball for that concept either LOL.
