More speed is always a good thing but in this day and age speed is only one part of the requirements that we deem needed for a CPU to really rock our world. Well it looks like the new Macbook Pro’s with their slightly faster Penryn based processors from Intel do just that and a little more.
As normal Apple ships the new Macbook Pro’s with all the goodies you could ever want in a sexy white box, except of course for some pretty apple logo pens. But hey you can’t have the world ;) These new processors won’t exactly run circles around their predecessors though they are faster, where the new Macbooks shine is their new cooler demeanor at Peak load and at average running a full 20 degrees cooler than their predecessors, but at the same time only requiring the fan to spin half as fast therefor half as loud.
In XBench everything from CPU to memory is a tad faster than the previous generation. The cooler less power hungry CPU’s and the fact that the new Macbook Pro’s will be shipping with LED backlights means that the battery’s should also last a bit longer than the older version as well… All in all it seems that their better all around.
But PC users don’t fret, Penryn’s are coming to everyone, I mean as far as I heard Dell and HP were already rolling out Penryn processors. The question I do have however is when will we see the LED/Penryn combination start floating down to the lower level laptops from the various manufacturers not just the highend models.
