The real low down on Zune's Video Features

General | Microsoft, Digg

As I thought, rumors are a nasty thing, people jumped at a speculative NY Post article that was saying that Zune was going to launch lacking videos. This all kind of sprung up because Microsoft said they would be only focusing on music at first. The thing NY Post and probably every other site online neglected to realize is they never said anything about actual features of the player, just that they would be focusing on the music. My take on this was that they wouldn't be focusing the STORE and SHARING aspects on the videos at the start but it would still SUPPORT videos. This would mean that videos would be able to play on the device but the store wouldn't allow you to buy them right away or atleast not as a hilighted feature at first. And it appears we have some final words from the ZuneInsider, and it kind of leans on the fact "you don't release a device with almost a 4" screen and don't allow videos" so next time someone trys to start a stupid rumor check with Microsoft first and use some simple logic, or as ZuneInsider says it...

Allow me to introduce you to my old friend: rumor and speculation ;) There’s been some discussion around here recently about this NY Post story. My take on it: the story confuses the ability to play video with the way users purchase video (they call it the “video store”). And it’s all based on, you guessed it, rumor and speculation. So here’s the official word: we haven’t announced anything with regards to either.

Zune is built around digital entertainment, and we’re doing some interesting things that I think will change the whole landscape. That’s’ the reason I wanted to move to Zune (besides the chance to get one free). What I’m most excited about is the approach we’re taking to community, and the way music - and video - is discovered, discussed, and shared. . . More as I have it.

Apparently Madison and Pine has a more direct point of view on the Video subject on Zune, and considering they work on the Zune team it's kind of more reliable than all the previous stupid rumors.

Here's what I know. I have seen the device running great quality video, actually I was asked to do a check on some video that had been encoded for me for the device. Looks rather good actually!
