Hot Chick swallows an iPod Shuffle… for … Science?

You know I debated whether I should have really posted this but as I’m still in the progress of moving and well it’s not exactly 100% gadget news. But then I checked my stats and realized something, if their’s 1 thing that my visitors like it’s hot chicks and gadgets. I mean to date after a year my most popular post still remains the one about one of the gizmodo gadget girls that had the macbook.

Well the Hot Chick Gadget news of the day comes from Gizmodo again, they seem to know all the hot girls who like gadgets LOL. You see the story starts a long while back when apple released the iPod shuffle, the really tiny one lots of people including myself asked the question “how long till someone swallows that da*n thing”.

heather_holiday_sexy_ipod_shuffle_swallow

Well let me introduce you to my new favorite gadget girl :) Heather Holiday, from the Coney Island Circus. She’s the Coney Island Circus sword swallower can you see where this story is going? Not only is she damn hot, but she has no gag reflex hence the sword swallow and well … as the story goes, iPod shuffle swallowing :). Realistically the iPod shuffle should have been a no-contest I mean she swallows 36″ swords on a daily basis.

So the question is did this gadget girl manage to swallow the 1.8 x 0.7 x 0.3-inch iPod shuffle? Did she get to listen to some rocking tunes from inside her esophogus? Well their’s a video below that showcases her attempt at it, definitly worth watching. But the sad truth is no she didn’t get to swallow it, you see the sword swallowing technique she uses isn’t so much swallowing the gadget in a sexy manner, it’s actually just allowing gravity to drop the sword/iPod down her throat.

With the iPod shuffle weighting in at only 0.38 ounces or 10.7 grams the shuffle just wasn’t cooperating in sliding down and being controlled by her esophogus muscles. I mean sure the spoon/stick could push it in a bit but after that gravity just couldn’t slide it down. She says that eventually she might be able to do it after some more practice but right now she couldn’t she promises to come back and show the world when she does manage it but for now we have a pretty wicked video of a chick making a great attempt, and a story about a chick with no gag reflex that could have probably easily been rewritten into a story for a porn site with a few key words changed LOL ;)

One thing I do disagree with gizmodo’s assessment is that they say this proves the iPod shuffle is swallow proof because it was sword swallower proof so you shouldnt worry about it. The think is theirs a difference between controlled swallowing and throwing something in your mouth and gulping it down, she might not have been able to swallow a jaw breaker either but i’m pretty sure theirs a few people that have choked their brains out on it. Not to mention tiny toys that kids swallow on a daily basis that she probably couldnt have control-swallowed. So I say while it might be wicked to see a chick try it, this is definitly NOT something for anyone to try.

Windows 7 logon UI customization… officially!

As you probably know, Windows 7 build 7057, a build recently leaked to the public, sports a new (yet ugly) login UI background. Delivering on the “more customizable” promise, Windows 7 now supports the ability to load images into the background of the login screen without the use of third-party software or manual hacks. Ok it’s still sort of a hack considering you have to go into the registry to enable the usage (why exactly this isn’t included by default in the theme UI is beyond me, most likely to try to keep it a OEM specialty but you can be sure more than OEM’s will be utilizing it :)

Before Logon UI Customization After Logon UI Customization
Figure 1 – Logon UI background image before and after customization.

Although this functionality was designed for OEMs in mind, it is pretty easy to turn on and off using regedit and some images lying around your hard drive.

First, a check is made to determine if the customization functionality is enabled or not. More precisely, a DWORD value named OEMBackground in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background key is checked. Its data, of Boolean type, defines whether or not this behavior is turned on, i.e. 1 for enabled, 0 for disabled. This value may not exist by default, depending on your system.

Next as this is an OEM feature images are derived from %windir%\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds. Like the registry value, this folder may not exist by default. The following files (sorted by width-to-height ratio) are supported in this folder:

  • backgroundDefault.jpg
  • background768×1280.jpg  (0.6)
  • background900×1440.jpg  (0.625)
  • background960×1280.jpg  (0.75)
  • background1024×1280.jpg (0.8)
  • background1280×1024.jpg (1.25)
  • background1024×768.jpg  (1.33-)
  • background1280×960.jpg  (1.33-)
  • background1600×1200.jpg (1.33-)
  • background1440×900.jpg  (1.6)
  • background1920×1200.jpg (1.6)
  • background1280×768.jpg  (1.66-)
  • background1360×768.jpg  (1.770833-)

NOTE: Images must be less than 256kb in size.

The backgroundDefault.jpg image is loaded and stretched-to-fit when a resolution/ratio-specific background cannot be found. The other resolution/ratio-specific files are self-explanatory. If the background cannot be loaded (e.g. image physically too large, incorrect ratio, etc.), the default SKU-based image is loaded from imagesres.dll. You’ll see a Windows Server-themed grayish background in there, too, suggesting this functionality is not specific to client SKUs.

The tutorial above is thanks to our friends over at WithinWindows!

Does it really matter if Global Warming exists or not?

Ok this post has been coming for quite some time but I think it’s time I get a few things off my chest that have been frustrating me about the scientific community, specifically the wasted energy and double sided politically minded crap going on in regard to the existence of Global Warming and humanities part in it. I’m not a scientist, I’m a 25 year old technician from Florida living in the Caribbean with my wife, but I’m still proud as hell to be American, that is unless I start hearing about how some scientists believe that Global Warming doesn’t exist and other say it do and how it is going to affect the future of America and the world.

The question I pose in this post is one in which does the existance really matter, I mean how does believing in global warming affect where the United States and the world at a whole is going affect our choices? I mean our main problem started out being that fossil fuels are finite and will be exhausted relatively soon. Then some people even started saying that all these nasty chemicals and build up were causing the planet to heat up, yada yada yada.

So as it works out we need to quickly move to renewable energies as quickly as possible from day 1 because on our current path we’re screwed because we will run out of fossil fuels anyway. So by reducing our usage of them and moving to renewable energies we solve that issue. The other issue seen is the fact that Oil comes from some of the most unstable regions in the world many that aren’t exactly friendly to US government or people. Now regardless of global warmings existence by moving to energy the US can make on it’s own aren’t we also solving this issue as well and keeping the energy cash in the hands of high tech countries that are either the US itself or from mostly countries we are allies with?

Heres the issue if Global Warming doesn’t exist we still have to tackle the issues of who we’re paying for our energy, and the fact that fossil fuels are running out. If Global Warming does exist the problems are the same just 1 more added pressure that pushes us to get things done even faster. So you see the question of whether Global Warming exists is pretty much a moot point because whether it exists or not we still need to do something about it to solve our other two looming problems.

The only effect I can see over the Global Warming nay-sayers complaining in the press and to congress, etc,  is to delay the move away from oil. Which can only really be sponsored by oil manufaturers as thats the only people I can believe that would want to delay and hide the reasons for moving away from fossil fuels. Personally I believe in the problem of Global Warming, but more so I believe that we’re using a resource that is dwindling, and we are shiping cash on a daily basis to rogue nations.

The move to renewable energies needs to change it’s attack strategy, because big oil keeps using the “global warming might not be real” doubt to put doubt into peoples minds even if they can’t stop the transition away from oil they can slow it by making people doubt the need for the transition. The lack of oil reserves, and the fact of who gets the cash are major cases for the shift away from fossil fuels. I mean increased mileage in cars was even the sounding of debate based about global warming? How exactly is increasing mileage on cars a bad thing, why should be that a stomping ground for a global warming debate, the fact is we’re running out of oil so shouldn’t we be making the most of it anyway?

I pose the question does global warmings existence really matter in the way we’re moving forward in our path towards the future of the planet. We want cleaner solutions, I’m sorry but global warming or not, I’m sick of vacationing places that have so much smog and discuting fumes in the air from cars and in areas with oil buring electrical plants. I’m sick of any rogue nations decision to hold off oil a little bit affecting the entire worlds economy because we all rely on oil from their unstable regions. Since when did polution become something that was debated over, last I checked polution was a problem regardless of global warming, it just happens that Global Warming was given as a “possible” outcome from all the polution humans cause. I’m sick of the bickering back and forth over whether global warming exists! We need to make a change, renewable energies aren’t for the global warming advocates or nay-sayers it’s for everyone because theirs more than 1 issue we’re dealing with theirs more than 1 reason pushing the move to a carbon neutral society.

This is all my opinion of course and as I said I’m just a 25 year old technician but isn’t it time that business and politics stopped delaying what needs to be done over stupid idiocincracies. The way I see it we know we’re poluting the planet everyone agrees, we know theirs finite oil left, we know the regions with oil are unstable, yet we’re still for some reason bickering over 1 of the probably hundreds of issues that our ways are affecting the planet and our lives? Since when did the other reasons become less important, and why is global warming overshadowing the others to the point that it gets hung up and stops progressing the solution?

Anyway it’s just a 2 cents from the back of my mind on the issues how I see them

Move to FeedBurner completed :)

Well guys as I said things will continue to be developed and improved and the second step of this process has been completed about 10 minutes ago, our feeds are now all moved over to FeedBurner completely. Just to keep everything nice and neat for everyone we even made it so our old DasBlog link’s are working. So both your old feed links and the new rss links will all be grabbing content now via FeedBurner.

We’re still working on some other nice little features like taking the entire site multilingual which might come in the next week or so depending on how things progress and how the server load works out in the coming week. As we’re running things on our normal server (don’t have the cash for a new server yet).

If anyone has any suggestions for the site please leave a comment and let us know as we’re always looking for more input. Now that the move to WordPress and Feed burner are completed and working (theirs a few broken URL’s still but i’m weeding them out 1 at a time to try to not loose any of our beloved visitors to the 404 world.
