It looks like Microsoft is going to stop “throwing the kitchen sinks at the problem”, which would make sense with Apple’s success with their 1 model, and now the Palm Pre’s massive excitement it caused. It would appear that beyond a new version of Windows Mobile that is definitely needed but a different set of tactics are really needed as well.
Well now Microsoft’s VP of Windows Mobile marketing has said there will be a “major announcement” out of his department come the Mobile World Congress next month, which makes sense considering we’ve been expecting WinMo 6.5 to be on it’s way for lik forever. He also mentioned that they are looking to cut down the total number of phones offered by licenses to force the hardware manufacturers to be more focused. It’s a risk though considering one of the main reasons Windows Mobile’s current dated interface still sells is the sheer number of devices its selling on.
With the release of the new Palm OS, and Microsoft having seen the iPhone and the damage it caused to the WinMo install base. I would hope that the Windows Mobile team has been watching and plans to announce something truely revolutionary and leaps ahead of where Windows Mobile 6 is, perhaps an official announcement of Windows Mobile 7 or a demo of something homefully awesome… I supposed we’ll have to wait until MWC to see.

Well here’s something a bit interesting out of TechCrunch, Apple says that they have information from 3 reliable sources that are said to be close to apple have said that Apple is developing a sort of Giant iPod Touch device with a seven to nine inch screen.
What this basically works out to is a a sort of Tablet running the iPod Touch software. It’s not a full fledged MacBook tablet as was hoped it’s basically a supped up larger iPod Touch. The original rumor of this actually came back in October when someone spotted an Apple product that had a display between the size of an iPhone and a MacBook that was spotted surfing the internet.
The fact the device would have the AppStore built in will make it quite the little piece of hardware if the product comes to light. It will be interesting to see how it will be able to compete against the NetBook market. As that’s where it seems to be targeting, I mean the Linux NetBooks were basically designed to target email and surfing. So perhaps it won’t beat out a Dual Core Windows XP NetBook but the Linux surfing/email netbooks may have a hard time giving a reason to buy it especially if apple can manage to keep costs respectable, read under $500. If they can the AppStore access bigger screen, could see it useful for everything from an eBook reader to POS systems and pretty much everything in between.
TechCrunch doesn’t go as far to guarantee that it will happen according to their sources, as they could easily scrap it and with Apple things like this are always secret until the moment before their announced even if only in a grainy crappy photo.

Ok now if the Porsche guys were like the mafia then Google Street View team would really be looking for a Chicago injury lawyer because they’re just getting all up in Porsche’s secret business goings on. I mean a while back it was big news when we discovered that the street view cameras had mistakenly recorded some guy pissing in public behind a car (but blurred his face, thanks Google privacy). Well it looks like Google’s privacy filters missed something else, this time it’s Porsche’s next generation cars that seem to have had their privacy erased. The picture seen above shows several updated cars pre-covering namely “Boxters, Caymans and even the 911″”.
I mean if a Google street view truck can drive by a secret set of pre-release cars and just record them and publish them for EVERYONE to see. It really makes you wonder if that privacy filter that blurs faces is really enough to actually be considered “Privacy”. I mean if it can catch half naked people, and secret projects it’s odd… really makes me wonder how long it will be until Street View takes a drive through the Mojave Desert, i hear theirs an interesting airstrip down their that might be interesting to grab some pictures of.

Ok here’s something very odd and upsetting, it appears that the 30GB Zunes namely the ones with the latest firmwares are having some serious issues namely they all stopped working around 2am December 31st 2008. Some where on some where docked, others were rebooted and now when they reach the loading screen and the bar is filled that’s the end of it it just sticks right their. You might as well go take your best diet pill and wait to loose some weight or maybe go count the stars cause it’s not going any further from what we can see.
As it’s still very early in the morning and most of Microsoft is still sleeping or hasn’t reached work yet theirs no official word or a solution to get the Zune fixed. But knowing Microsoft and how they helped the Xbox360 customers who had issues it might be interesting to see how fast and just how exactly they solve this new Zune issue. It really makes me wonder what’s going on with Microsoft’s hardware division, they make great software but they keep letting these single bugs slip in that end up being huge disasters. I
Luckily the new second generation Zune’s are still all functioning properly, but then again it doesn’t exactly speak of peoples assurance in Microsoft hardware and it’s definitely going to hurt Microsoft hardware fans trust. I mean the zune forums are all full of people saying basically what you’ve read above. Theirs much speculation that this might be part of the Y2K9 issue (a derivative of the whole Y2K bug fiasco that scared the world) The only issue with this theory is that if it was an issue with the internal clock flipping to 2009, it would be tomorrow not today, I mean at this point today is the 31st of 2008 not 2009.

Yes you read it right the home servers have been a major awesome product since Microsoft released them but a major drawback was that they didn’t support time machine for those mac users out their. Well not anymore if the new HP Media Server is to be believed as it’s boasting some great specs at a really low cost.
HP MediaSmart Server ex485and ex487 (750GB & 1.5TB) for Mac and Windows users. It apparently will live happily with mac and windows users and will even support sharing a iTunes library for those people that fancy their itunes musac. For those weird music players, you know like the iphone, and ipod touch etc ;) It’s great to see the WHS environment progressing especially when its going on sale for under $600. Only draw back i can see is that this is the current release of WHS and not the fancy new version thats coming in 2009 or at least they don’t say its a new version of the OS included.
