The British really do get the coolest gadgets, Queen Elizabeth 2 to name one and now they have a garbage truth that’s running off of what it collects. Garbage truck running on garbage doesn’t it seem like some kind of odd loop that shouldn’t exist it just seems astonishing. Then again I supposed it is a bit like people with jobs in banking that also go to banks as customers, but not quite as odd.
This new breakthrough in Huddersfield they basically modified a 3.5 ton Smith Edison Ford garbage truck. It drives around and picks up garbage like every other garbage truck around the world. The difference comes in place after they start heading back where instead of going to a dump it heads to a Energy from Waste power station and recycling station. The station they return to burns the garbage and creates electricity that recharges the truck for the next day’s route. The garbage collected also produces nearly 10 megawatts of excess electricity per day that is added back into the grid.
So 1 day of garbage collection nets 10 megawatts of power and is all handled by vehicles that require no fossil fuels! WTF IS WRONG WITH THE US! We’re all about “green” power now but somehow this idea hasn’t hit every state in the US? Why? Why is this something that we haven’t seen come state side. I mean their doesn’t seem to be any outage, it turns garbage collecting into a money making green enterprise, and the vehicle chugs along collecting and recycling at 50 miles per hour, sure seems like the perfect solution to me.

Isn’t it funny how theirs something that always comes out that you look at and must say “really, who the hell would by this”. I mean we know for a fact that you can loose weight effectively without aweight loss supplement. The same question comes when it comes to this camera lens, wait no it’s not a camera lens, it’s a … calendar? WTF. The sad part is I’m pretty much 100% positive that theirs photographer nuts that would pay a heavy premium to own one of these.
The calendar itself goes up to 2032 and is made of a solid piece of aluminum. Unfortunately the artist who developed it doesn’t say if this is an automated calendar (useful) or a un-useful manual calendar. Sharad Haksar the artist who developed it will be selling them for, you guessed it a very heavy premium of $2,000 but as I said previously your pretty much guaranteed it will sell to someone even if it is manual. It’s going to go on sale in the next 2 weeks or so.

Lenovo’s latest 15.4” IdeaPad has probably made quite a few people a bit interested given it’s decent specs and sub-$1,000 price point. Then again if your even a little smart you know to wait for reviews especially when it comes to the less upgradeable hardware… like laptops.
Well for those of you that are smart enough to hunt down online reviews your time has come as HotHardware has gone all out and pretty much abused this little piece of discount hardware. While it’s got a decent bit of computer memory, and it’s packing the Core 2 Duo along with a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M and they strained it to the limits to see just how far the laptop could go. The testing wasn’t to see if some joe-schmoe could use word easily, they pushed it to see if it could handle gaming situations and how it managed them.
Apparently one of the biggest features they loved was the 15.4” display that was extremely crisp, not to mention the noteworthy stability even under heavy stress. I won’t go into the full details of their review, but it comes down to… well gaming is good but if your a heavy gamer you’ll probably want to spend some extra cash. But as a do-it-all and don’t crash no matter how hard you push it, especially for under that $1,000 price it’s a really solid purchase.

Well after fighting it for a very long time we’ve decided to move to wordpress and as you can see it’s just launched, things may be a little bit hit and miss at the start as we’re busy relaunching, we’re hoping to maintain 100% link compatability with our old link structure. As you know the old way of permalinks were really really nasty so the fact that we’re making this move is going to be a bit difficult as we’ve got a few thousand pages that all need to seemlessly transfer over.
Our fear is that we’ll loose PageRank or we’ll loose our indexing power in google, but due to the fact that only 1/2 our pages were getting indexed, and the tremendous number of plugins and third-party wordpress support we felt it was time to move to WordPress, not because it’s PHP, no I still love my ASP.NET as you’ll see on all my other sites, but the fact is we needed to move to a platform with the wide range of third party plugin support, and WordPress just has this part of the market cornered.
The university of Illinois researchers have some big news in the way of the world’s smallest working fuel cell. You know the rumored power of the future, just in a very very very small package. So small as you can see in the image it’s smaller than most watch batteries. In fact the fuel cell measures in at only 3mm x 3mm x 1mm and is comprised of only 4 layers. The water reservoir, the thin membrane that makes it work, a chamber of metal hydride and of course the teeny tiny electrode assembly.
The tiny fuelcell packs low voltage coming in at 0.7 volts and 0.1 milliamp current that it can push for about 30 hours. A newer version is said to boost the milliamperage up to a full milliamp. Of course this is definitely not enough to go powering a cell phone or a TV or anything like that. It could however be used for smaller electronics and you know things like the microbots and those swarm bots we heard that Darpa wants to build.
